Lose Abdominal Fat with Green Tea ~ Make Your Stock Portfolio Healthy

Drink Tea for Weight Loss

According to a study by Peking University and other institutions, the catechins in green tea can cause weight loss. The research showed that adults who consumed the catechin-rich tea beverage lost significant amounts of abdominal fat as well as overall body fat when compared to the control group. What was interesting is that neither the green tea group nor the control group was asked to exercise or change their daily diet.

Other Benefits

Not only are the catechins in the green tea helpful for your health, but the caffeine can also provide additional health benefits. Studies have shown that caffeine can help prevent strokes, due to the anti-inflammatory effects of green tea and its blood circulation control. In addition, caffeine may help prevent skin cancer, according to a study in the Journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.

The Tea Stocks

For the investor looking for a way to get into the green tea industry, the options are fairly limited. For example, Argo Tea is a chain of tea shops operating in Chicago, New York, Boston, and St. Louis, but they are privately held. Bigelow Tea Company which owns the only tea plantation in the U.S., is also privately held. Fortunately, WallStreetNewsNetwork.com has turned up a list of ten publicly traded companies involved in the production and sale of tea.

Unfortunately, most of the stocks are overseas companies, which makes it hard for American investors to invest in. There is of course Starbucks (SBUX) which owns Tazo Tea Company. Starbucks bought Tazo in 1999, and open the first Tazo tea shop in 2012. Starbucks trades at 34.7 times trailing earnings and 25.8 times forward earnings. It pays a dividend yield of 1.2%. For the latest reported quarter, earnings spiked up 26% on a 11.3% rise in revenues. Starbucks reports earnings on July 25.

Another major player in the tea area is The Hain Celestial Group (HAIN), which owns the Celestial Seasonings tea company. The company sells green tea along with other types of tea and herbal teas, known as tisanes. The natural food company Hain Food Group took over Celestial in 2000. Hain trades at 30.8 times trailing earnings with a forward P/E of 25. Earnings for the last reported quarter were up an incredible 68.9% on a 21.4% boost in revenues. The company's next earnings announcement will be held on August 19.

Ito En (ITOEF), which trades over-the-counter, is based in Tokyo and is the largest green tea distributor in Japan. The stock trades at 18.8 times earnings. Revenues for the latest reported quarter were up 9.6%, with earnings jumping 14.9%.

There are several other tea companies that can be found on the free list of tea stocks at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com. The list includes the stock ticker symbol, the P/E ratio, the forward P/E ratio, and the yield. Let's hope High Tea gives new meaning to your stock portfolio.

Starbucks Opening in Vietnam: Is this the Next Big Asian Growth Country?

Starbucks (SBUX) has been expanding all over the world and will now open its first coffee shop in Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam has a fast growing economy. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the country spent almost $4.5 billion on Apple (AAPL) iPhones and other cells phone imports last year.

Vietnam is drawing the eyes of other companies. As an example, Siam Cement Group, based in Thailand, paid $240 million to purchase an 85% interest in Prime Group, one of the largest tile and brick manufacturers in Vietnam.

So if an American investor wants to participate in Vietnam's growth, there are some options available. According to the list of Vietnam stocks at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com, there are over a dozen companies that are either based in Vietnam or have large operations in Vietnam. Unfortunately, most of these companies are either very illiquid, have low market caps, or don't trade in the United States.

The best way to take advantage of the Vietnamese business expansion is through the Market Vectors Vietnam Exchange Traded Fund (VNM). The fund owns several Vietnam companies that would not be available to US investors, such as Vincom Joint Stock Company, Viet Nam Joint Stock Commercial Bank For Industry And Trade, Bao Viet Holdings, and the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam, all of which make up about 30% of the portfolio.

The average price to earnings ratio is 10.6 and the average price to book value is 1.19. The fund pays a yield of 1.0%. Although the fund had a volatile year in 2012, it was actually up 22%. It started off the year well, spiking 4.7% on January 2.

Why Starbucks is a Death Stock

Death stocks are companies involved in the business of cemeteries, cremation, coffins, funeral parlors, and headstones. So what is the connection that Starbucks (SBUX) has with this industry? The company is putting one of its gourmet coffee shops in a funeral home! The Robinson Funeral Home in Easley, South Carolina plans to open a Starbucks in its facilities during the month of August. This gives a whole new meaning to the term 'Waking the dead.'

But seriously, this is an industry that won't go away, the 'inevitable death and taxes' situation. There are many plays in this sector, and according to the free list at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com, there are ten companies in the death business. Prevent Skin Cancer with Caffeine: Coke or Pepsi Anyone?

Just in time for summer! According to a recent study in the Journal of the American Association for Cancer Research, the risk of getting basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer, can be reduced by drinking caffeinated drinks. This doesn't just mean coffee, it also includes tea and soft drinks such a Coca Cola (KO) and Pepsi (PEP). It even includes chocolate! You only need a couple caffeine servings per day.

This study involved research on 112,897 people. The highlights of the study showed, first, that coffee drinking and basal cell carcinoma risk are inversely associated, which means that the higher the coffee consumption, the lower the risk. Second, the most likely component of coffee that causes this effect is the caffeine. Those who avoid caffeine by drinking decaf should be aware that the study showed that the consumption of decaffeinated coffee showed no reduction in skin cancer, which seems to indicate that caffeine can block skin tumor formation. It isn't just skin cancer risk that caffeine can help prevent. Caffeine has also been  shown to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and Parkinson’s disease. According to Jiali Han, Ph.D., associate professor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston and Harvard School of Public Health, "our results add basal cell carcinoma to a list of conditions for which risk is decreased with increasing coffee consumption."

So how can an investor participate in the consumption of coffee? There are several ways, according to the free list of coffee stocks at WallStreetNewsNetwork.com. First, there are the coffee houses, Starbucks (SBUX) and Peets (PEET). Starbucks is the largest coffeehouse retailer in the world, with outlets in 50 countries and over 17,000 shops worldwide. The stock trades at 23 times forward earnings and pays a yield of 1.3%. Earnings for the latest quarter were up 18.5% on an 14.7% increase in revenues.

Peet's Coffee and Tea is a specialty coffee roaster, marketer, and retailer founded in 1966 in Berkeley, California. The stock trades at 25 times forward earnings. Revenues for the latest quarter were up 7.1%, but earnings dropped by about 38.6%. The company does not pay a dividend.

A major wholesaler of coffee is Coffee Holding Co. (JVA), which also markets private label coffee and branded coffee in the US and Canada. The company has 90 varieties of raw green coffee beans which it imports from around the world and sold to large and small operators.

Another source of caffeine is tea. Teavana Holdings (TEA), which trades on the New York Stock Exchange, operates as a specialty retailer of loose-leaf teas, tea wares, and other tea-related merchandise in North America. The stock has a forward price to earnings ratio of 19, with earning rising 5.4% for the latest quarter on a 26.8% boost in earnings.

But it is not just coffee and tea where you can get your caffeine fix, there are also the soft drinks, also known as soda and pop depending on what part of the country you live in.  Coca Cola distributes numerous types of soft drinks in over 200 countries, and is most known for its Coke product. Coca Cola Classic contains 100.05 milligrams of caffeine per liter. The company sells many other caffeinated drinks such as Nestea and the energy drink Full Throttle. The stock trades at 18 times forward earnings, and will be having their earnings announcement on July 17. The stock is set to have a 2 for 1 stock split on August 12. The stock pays a dividend rate of 2.6%.

PepsiCo, a large food and beverage conglomerate, is probably Coke's biggest competitor. The company's leading caffeinated soft drink, Pepsi, has 104 milligrams per liter of caffeine. It also sells Mountain Dew with 154 mg/L and Mountain Dew MDX which has a supercharged 198.6 mg/L. It even markets Adrenaline Rush. The stock has a forward P/E ratio of 16 and a yield of 3.0%. Earnings will be announced July 25.

Dr Pepper Snapple Group (DPS) produces Dr Pepper, which contains 187 mg/L. The stock has a forward P/E of 14 and pays a decent yield of 3.1%.

Most of the energy drinks are made by private companies; however, Monster, is made by Monster Beverage Corporation (MNST), which trades on NASDAQ. Monster contains over 316 mg/L. The stock trades at 30 times earnings.

Don't forget chocolate. The Hershey Company (HSY) has its Special Dark Chocolate Bar with 31 milligrams of caffeine per serving and its Special Milk Chocolate Bar with 10 milligrams of caffeine. Hershey trades at 21 times forward earnings and yields 2.1%.

Coffee Beans Help With Weight Loss: More News You've Been Waiting For

Here is some great news for coffee drinkers interested in losing weight. According to a recent study presented at the American Chemical Society's meeting in San Diego, participants in the study who took unroasted, green coffee bean extract lost in excess of 10% of their body weight on average, in less than six month. Please note: that's not ten pounds, that's ten percent. So for someone weighing 150 pounds, that's a 15 pound loss. For someone who weighs 250 pounds, it is a 25 pound loss.

The study analyzed 16 overweight adults between the ages of 22 to 46 years of age. The average weight loss was 17 pounds with a 16 percent decrease in body fat, with no side effects. Researchers at the University of Scranton believe that it may be due to the chlorogenic acid in the unroasted coffee bean. Unfortunately, roasted coffee has much less of this ingredient than unroasted coffee.
